Ransom off to fast start - The Pioneer

Published

EVART -- Reese Ransom is off to the type of start he wants to be going into the rest of the wrestling season.

Ransom, prior to the holiday break, was fourth at the Chippewa Hills Joe Loren Invitational, at 152 pounds. He lost to Jacob Haynes of Whitehall 14-3 in the third-place match. Ransom has a 9-3 record.

"My first two matches I wrestled pretty good," he said. "The third match I wrestled all right against a tough kid. My last match I got a little sloppy."

Ransom qualified for state last season but didn't place. His goal this year is to return to the state tournament and place.

"I just have to keep doing what I'm doing now and work hard in the practice room," Ransom said.

He wrestled at 140 last year.

"150 is a really tough class," Ransom said. "My top game has been pretty good this year and I've been able to get a lot of pins."

Evart will be at the St. Louis Invitational on Saturday and will wrestle home on Jan. 8 against Benzie Central and Pine River.

"We're a lot bigger and better than the last few yearsm," Ransom said. "We're doing good so far."
