Looks like Cardi B had so much fun in her film debut that she’s already signed on to another. After making a widely praised if brief appearance in Hustlers, the rapper has now apparently joined the cast of Fast & Furious 9.
Cardi B joins Fast franchise maestro Vin Diesel in his latest Instagram post from set. “Day 86 here on the set of Fast 9,” Diesel says. “I know I’m exhausted. I literally—we all gave every single thing we could for this movie. Put it all on the table. Put it all out there.”
“I’m tired,” Cardi interjects, earning a laugh from Diesel. “But I can’t wait! I ain’t gonna front, I think this is going to be the best one.”
Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin will return to direct Fast 9, which will reunite franchise stalwarts Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, and Ludacris. Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron will also reprise their roles from the eighth installment, The Fate of the Furious. In addition to Cardi B and Ozuna, newcomers will include John Cena, Finn Cole, and Anna Sawai. But neither Dwayne Johnson nor Jason Statham will appear now that their characters, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, have gotten their own spin-off.
A representative for Universal Pictures did not immediately respond to V.F.’s request for confirmation regarding Cardi B’s casting. But earlier this month the rapper did reveal during an Ellen DeGeneres Show appearance that she would be filming another movie role this month. (“I enjoy the checks!” she quipped.) The news of her casting comes on the heels of another musician joining the Fast 9 cast: On Monday it was announced that Puerto Rican pop star Ozuna will also make an appearance and contribute to the soundtrack. It is unclear if Cardi B will make any musical contributions to the film, but we can all hope.
