Vin Diesel Says The Final ‘Fast and Furious’ Movie Could Be Split in Two - Fatherly

Everybody knows that next year’s Fast 10 will be the final film in the Fast Saga. But what Vin Diesel presupposes is: maybe it won’t be.

While promoting F9: The Fast Saga, the action star let slip that the tenth film in the series might be split into two separate movies, extending the series to a grand total of 11 films.

“For the fans, should Fast 10 parts one and two be the conclusion, it would be nice for this world to continue for generations to come,” Diesel said in an interview with GamesRadar.

He’s suggesting that Universal, sensing an opportunity to close out the series with a bang (and reap the financial rewards of two blockbuster films instead of one) might give the Fast and Furious franchise the Harry Potter treatment.

  1. Are you concerned about spoiling your kids?

Yes, it's something I think about.

No, I don't worry about it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Warner Bros. turned the seven-book Harry Potter series into eight films by dividing the hefty final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, into two parts. Lionsgate did the same thing three years later when it split Mockingjay into a two-film capstone to the Hunger Games franchise.

And honestly, going this route feels like a win-win situation. The filmmakers get to tell a bigger story (something the Fast franchise has never shied away from), the fans get more content, and the studio gets two blockbusters instead of one.

So while this move is far from confirmed, it makes a lot of sense for everyone.

Diesel also said that, regardless of whether there are 10 or 11 films in the main saga, more spin-offs are on the way. Again, this seems to be a page out of the Harry Potter playbook.

“The universe is so robust and so rich with talent and rich with story that, on one level, it’s totally feasible to have spinoffs, and I think that’s something that is inevitable,” Diesel said. “Universal deserves it because of how much they’ve invested in this little saga, and it’d be good to give back to Universal.”

F9: The Fast Saga comes to theaters on May 22.
